MEDIA ADVISORY

UGA TO ANNOUNCE NEW ASSOCIATE PROVOST FOR
INSTITUTIONAL DIVERSITY ON FRIDAY, JUNE 27

The University of Georgia will announce the hiring of its new associate provost for institutional diversity on Friday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the Gordon Jones Gallery in the Administration Building.

Five finalists were identified in a national search by a committee of students, faculty and staff chaired by Arthur Dunning, vice president for public search and outreach at UGA. Each candidate visited campus to meet with students, staff and administrators. The new associate provost will succeed Rodney Bennett, UGA’s dean of students, who has held the job on an interim basis since last October.

The associate provost will direct UGA’s Office of Institutional Diversity, which coordinates efforts to promote equity and diversity at the university. The office’s activities include finding ways to evaluate and improve existing and new diversity programs; ensuring that UGA’s curricula is sensitive to the needs of all students; helping familiarize minority middle and high school students with opportunities for study at UGA; and implementing strategies for recruitment and retention of minority students, faculty and staff.
