This year’s total -- 465 more students than the 15,190 enrolled last year -- marks the fifth consecutive summer that enrollment has risen since UGA converted to the semester system in 1998. The total includes 15,077 students attending classes on the UGA campus in Athens and 557 enrolled at the Gwinnett University Center, where UGA offers undergraduate and graduate classes in education, business and other areas. The 15,655 is a “head count” -- the number of people who registered for one or more classes during the summer. Many of these students are not taking a full course load of 15 credit hours. The equivalent full-time (EFT) enrollment for summer is 7,536. EFT converts the head-count number into a figure that indicates what enrollment would be if the entire head count were taking full course loads. UGA and all institutions in the University System of Georgia receive state funding based on a formula calculated on EFT. The head count enrollment at the undergraduate level totals 10,098, a 1.6 percent increase over last summer. Graduate enrollment is up 6.3 percent to a total of 4,810. Enrollment in the professional schools of law, pharmacy and veterinary medicine totals 360, a drop of 1.4 percent from last summer. An additional 387 students are enrolled in independent study, up 6.9 percent from last year. |
