UGA Today uses some of the internet's most powerful, popular web formats. All of these web formats are plug-ins and are freely available for download from their respective websites. Follow the instructions below to get the proper plug-ins for your computer. These plug-ins are now standards for most browsers. If you have received a new computer with pre-installed Netscape or Explorer, chances are these plug-ins are already installed in your browser plug-in folder.
You can specify which plug-in your computer will automatically use to handle different media formats. In Netscape, go to "Edit", scroll down and highlight "Preferences." The left side of the dialog box titled "Preferences for [your name]" contains different browser preference choices. Locate and open "Navigator" (click on the triangle to expand to a submenu) then click on "Applications." The right side of the dialog box contains descriptions of the different media and file formats used on the web. You can determine which application will open each format by highlighting a format, clicking on the edit button and choosing the plug-in or application you prefer to handle that format.
It's pretty much the same thing in Explorer except the dialog box you need is called "File Helpers" and is located as a submenu item under "Receiving Files."
