Statement from President Michael F. Adams
This has been a trying time for America, for this community and this university. An institution as complex and diverse as the University of Georgia will naturally have people who are directly and personally affected by a tragedy such as the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. I have been deeply moved by the outpouring of caring, concern and compassion that has flowed across this campus. We have, in this time of national sadness, come together to support our friends, our community and our nation. I urge each of you to continue to direct your energy in these positive and constructive ways.
It is troubling to hear of scattered reports around the nation of personal conflicts based on nationality or ethnicity or religion. As a community, we must stand firm against such divisions. This university is home to people from every county in Georgia, every state in the nation and more than 140 countries around the world, yet we share the common bonds of education, of knowledge, of discernment and enlightenment. These are our strongest weapons against the acts perpetrated against our country last week.
I am keeping the victims and their families in my prayers. I hope that each of you will do the same.
