Every student who joins one of the organizations
becomes a member of NPHC. The
Council is the governing body for the eight
historically African American organizations
of the University of Georgia campus. Each chapter
has a delegate and alternate delegate to the Council,
in addition to the chapter President. The Council
strives for Greek unity and high standards for each
member. The Council also provides community service
opportunities, educational programs, and social events
to all University students.
The Council is led by five executive board members
and the advisor to oversee all programs and activities.
Council activities throughout year include "Meet the
Greeks," an interactive session where students can get
information on each chapter and learn more about Greek
life. The Council hosts the first party of each semester
and a joint Founder’s Day program to promote unity.
A highlight of each year is the annual stepshow. "Face
Off 2006" brought over 1,500 people to the Classic
Center. Each year the Council awards two scholarships
to University students using proceeds from the show.
In addition to social activities, the Council plays an
active role in community service. Last year the Council
participated in the AIDS Walk Atlanta, Relay For Life,
Yard Show Canned Food Drive and Movie Education
Night. The Council requires each chapter to have an
average of ten service hours a semester, but everyone
exceeds that minimum!
Along with NPHC programming, each individual
chapter provides creative, innovative, and educational
programs for the campus throughout the year. Chapters
also provide social activities and events unique to their
organization. Events are usually advertised in the Tate
Student Center, Memorial Hall, information boards
around campus, and in the residence halls. Look for an
exciting year! |
