What is Objectivism?

"I am not primarily an advocate of capitalism, but of egoism; I am not primarily an advocate of egoism but of reason. If one recognizes the supremacy of reason and applies it consistently, all the rest follows. This –the supremacy of reason- was, is and will be the primary concern of my work, and the essence of Objectivism."

    –Ayn Rand, "Brief Summary"
    The Objectivist Sept. 1971

    What is Objectivism?
It is a Philosophy of Life based on Objective Reality.
It can be divided into five branches:
        1. Metaphysics: Objective Reality
        2. Epistemology: Reason
        3. Ethics: Self-Interest
        4. Politics: Capitalism
        5. Aesthetics: Romantic Realism
    Metaphysics:  Objective Reality
Existence exists.  Reality exists as an objective absolute, and is not conditional upon consciousness.  In othe words reality exist independently of our feelings and wishes.
    Epistemology:  Reason
Reason (the non-contradictory integration of experience) is the only means of perceiving reality and acquiring knowledge.
    Ethics:  Self-Interest
Every man is an end in himself.  His own life is his standard of value, and the purpose of his own existence.
    Politics:  Capitalism
Man must be free to choose the work he likes, to trade with whomever he chooses, and to advance himself and his abilities as far as his desires and reality allow him.  Government should not interfere in the peaceful, voluntary (un-coerced), interactions and exchanges among men.  The only role of government is in the prohibition of coercion (the initiation of force or fraud).
    Aesthetics:  Romantic Realism
Art is the recreation of reality according to one's own values.
