Information for Departments who will be Advertising for Faculty Rank Positions

In an effort to provide information and assistance to departments who are recruiting faculty rank positions that may attract an international applicant pool ISSIS has requested that EEO attach the following information sheet as a recommended guide for the contents of the ad.

Attention Hiring Department

If this position has any percentile of teaching responsibilities and you anticipate that you will attract international applicants (non-resident aliens) to the position, you will be able to save time and money by advertising in compliance with the Department of Labor’s permanent residency (PERM) requirements. If your final selection is an international who needs the university to sponsor them for permanent residency then the advertisement and the applicant pool can be used for this purpose provided the application is submitted within 18 months of the job offer.

What are the advertising requirements?

  1. There must be a PRINT AD in either the Chronicle of Higher Education or a professional journal specific to the field. Please allow a 30 day application deadline from the date the ad is published. (Journals in electronic format are not acceptable.) Please save a copy of this ad for subsequent filings with the Department of Labor.
  2. The Ad must include:
    • Title and nature of the position, i.e. full-time tenure track or full time non tenured.
    • Degree level and field of study. If you will accept related fields of study please include them.
    • Years of prior experience required to qualify for the position.
    • Information on location where work will be performed. Useful links are departmental websites, www.uga.edu, www.georgia.gov and www.visitathensga.com to show the working and living environment.
    • Application requirements and name and address of individual to whom applications should be directed.
    • Any additional information you would like to include.
You may use other means to attract an applicant pool; however, these cannot be used in place of the Print Ad.

Please Note: If you select a non-resident alien for the position, after they accept, please forward a copy of the job offer letter to: Mary Ann Kelly, Director, Permanent Residency and Outreach, OIE 110 East Clayton Street, Suite 400, Athens, Ga 30602-5207. Bldg # 2640.

Need more information? Please contact the OIE International Student/Scholar and Immigration Services (ISSIS) at 706 425-3154 or e-mail Mary Ann Kelly at makelly@uga.edu or Jennifer Buriles jburiles@uga.edu.

Mary Ann Kelly Director, Permanent Residency and Outreach will be available to answer any questions applicants may have regarding their status at UGA. You are welcome to make an appointment for them to visit while they are on campus.
