What is a TN?

As part of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) Canadian and Mexican professionals may enter the U.S. under the TN immigration classification. The TN classification is essentially a modified version of the H-1B program that does away with (for Canadians) much of the paperwork normally required for an H-1B. Employers seeking TN status for Mexican employees must still complete all the preliminary paperwork as for H-1B status.

Only certain occupations are eligible for TN status and the Office of International Education should be contacted to ensure an employee will be eligible. More detailed information about the TN status is provided under the TN link to the left.
