Off-Campus Employment - F1 Students
An F-1 student may wish to engage in temporary employment to gain practical experience in his or her field of study. To obtain permission for this kind of employment, an F-1 student can seek authorization for practical training. There are two types of practical training:
Employment workshops for F-1 students are offered weekly by the OIE advisors. To sign up for a session, please
- call 425-3154 OR
- come by 110 E. Clayton Street, 4th Floor, Bank of America Building.
Some F-1 students may be eligible for the employment benefit known as Severe
Economic Hardship. This benefit addresses situations where a financial need
beyond the student's control arises, which was unforeseen at the time the
student applied to UGA, and all on-campus employment has been deemed insufficient.
Off-Campus Employment - J1 Students
J-1 students who meet eligibility requirements may apply for
Academic Training.
Each semester a workshop is held to provide information to J-1 students about
applying for academic training. Speak with an advisor if you would like to find
out more information.
