Video Contest Judging & Awards
The UGA Office of International Education will appoint a panel of judges to evaluate video submissions according to the following criteria:
- Originality & Creativity
- Overall Content
- Impact of Message (educational, persuasive, inspiring, etc.)
- Alignment with the OIE mission and Video Contest theme: To inspire and educate others about the value of study abroad, and to promote international understanding.
NOTE ABOUT THE VIDEO CONTEST THEME: This theme is intended to be broad and open to creative interpretation. For example, you may wish to focus your video on your overall study abroad experience, or you may choose to highlight a single event, excursion, service-project, moment of cultural exchange, etc. Perhaps you captured something on film that was particularly educational, transformational, surprising, impactful, humbling, eye-opening, mind-expanding, or humorous. Perhaps you have discovered a new way of looking at yourself, others, and the world. These are just ideas to get you started…the content is up to you!
- Delivery & Presentation (the effective use of a variety of media enhancements that add interest to the video’s content, such as: a combination of still and moving images, transition between video clips/photo images, sound effects, voiceover, music, titles & text, picture in picture, animation, etc. *Also see below: Video Production Resources)
A Grand Prize Video Winner will be announced along with all Photo Contest winners during International Education Week on Friday, November 20th, 2009 at International Coffee Hour. This event will be held in the Memorial Hall Ballroom from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. The Coffee Hour event will include a chance to vote in the People’s Choice photo category, prizes, free food, a silent auction, and more!
Video Production & Uploading Resources
Because ‘Delivery & Presentation’ are included in the judging criteria, students are encouraged to use available resources to produce interesting, effective videos. Submissions don’t need to
be of professional quality, but we hope this contest will inspire you to acquire and hone your technical skills! Here are a few basic, easy-to-use resources and on-line tutorials for beginners, with tips on filming, editing, interviewing, composing shots, formatting and uploading video, and more:
