Curriculum Agroforestry in the Caribbean; FORS, ANTH, ECOL CRSS 4760 (3 hrs.) including aspects of Organic Agriculture, Farming Systems, Biodiversity Conservation, and Social Aspects of Agroforestry. Fulfills 3000+ level elective for UGA students.
Instruction Form: lecture, directed field study and excursions around the island

Participants attend classes with: other students enrolled in UGA 4760, from UGA or other universities, and work on-site with interns/apprentices of the VISFI/Creque Dam Farm.

Special Note: Open to UGA students at Griffin and Tifton campuses, or any USG undergraduate students; transient students welcomed (UGA Athens-campus students, e-mail klaster@uga.edu for more information). All students must have completed at least 1 academic year and have an interest in agriculture, farming systems or natural resources management.
Credit Minimum: 3 undergraduate semester hours
Maximum: 3 undergraduate semester hours.
Estimated Cost $1,500 Included in cost is lodging, meals, local transport, cultural events/excursions, supplementary course materials and travel insurance. Not included in cost: Incidental costs for souvenirs, snacks on field trips or during transit (airports), and meals/activities during the day off will be the responsibility of the individual student. During the 15 days of travel, students can expect to utilize a minimum of cash for necessities with an average for daily expenditures to be less than $20. Some of the incidental costs might include meals during town visits, postage, taxi fares, purchase of books or materials and personal items.
Accommodation Bungalow Residences - 3 to 4 students per cabaņa, shared bath facilities, rural setting on a farm and not within walking distance of urban environment.
Other Details Students reside and participate on a working farm while engaged in the class with lectures and field trips off-farm. We will visit other farms and talk with farmers around the island, examine natural resource management and food systems, and explore how food and farm livelihoods contribute to Caribbean society.
