What is America Reads?
America Reads is a partnership between the Office of Student Financial Aid and the Clarke County School District. UGA students are trained to assist first through fourth graders who need extra help learning to read. The tutors work off-campus in one of five local elementary schools. America Reads has been a part of our Federal Work-Study program since the 2000-2001 academic year. America Reads at UGA employed twenty-six tutors during the 2008-09 school year. The mission of the America Reads Program at UGA is to provide literacy tutors for children in the Athens community.
