ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • The Board of Regents has made some noteworthy changes in the Regents Test.
  1. The RGTE and RGTR courses, formerly considered remedial courses, are now called skills courses.
  2. Students who are placed into these courses will earn a grade of “S” if they pass the Regents Test in the term in which the course(s) is taken.
  3. Effective Summer, 2003, students may exempt/satisfy the Reading portion of the Test with a minimum 510 Verbal SAT or 23 ACT Reading score. The Essay portion is satisfied with a minimum 650 on the SAT II English Writing Test, or a 3 on the AP in English Lit and Composition or English Language and Composition or a 4 on the International Baccalaureate (IB) higher level English test.
  4. Finally, effective Spring, 2005, the Essay portion of the Test may be satisfied with the following combinations of SAT Verbal scores and grades in ENGL 1101:

SAT Verbal of 590 (ACT 26) and above with a grade of “B” in ENGL 1101

The Office of the Vice President for Instruction is working with the Registrar and Admissions Office to have these newest exemption possibilities programmed into IMS as quickly as possible.
  • The University Council approved changes to the Presidential Scholar and Dean’s List requirements. The minimum number of hours in which students must be enrolled during Fall and Spring semesters in order to qualify for recognition has been changed from 12 to 14, with at least 12 hours in courses graded A-F. These changes are effective Spring, 2005.
