APPLYING TO GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND POLICY

Graduate Admissions at the University of Georgia is a collaborative process involving the Graduate School and the graduate faculty of the University.  The graduate coordinator for the Department of Public Administration and Policy, Dr. Vicky Wilkins, serves as a liaison between the department and the Graduate School.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for admission to the MPA program, students must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate potential for excellence in the study of public administration. MPA students come from diverse backgrounds and fields of study. Visit the MPA student profiles for more information.

To be considered for admission to the PhD program, students must hold a master's degree from an accredited college or university. Please visit the PhD Student profiles for more information on current students.

DEADLINES
Domestic Applicants
  Fall Semester July 1
  Spring Semester November 15
International Applicants
  Fall Semester April 15
  Spring Semester October 15

The deadline for students applying for assistantships is February 1.

HOW TO APPLY
Please send application materials to the correct offices. Misdirected application materials will slow the application process. Do not mail videotapes, newspapers, or other media about yourself to the department. The stated application materials will suffice. Students interested in the MPA/JD program must apply separately to both programs and meet the admissions requirements for each. For more information on Law School admissions, click here.

1. Complete the Online Application ($50 application fee).

2. Send the materials listed below to the UGA Graduate School:

Office of Graduate Admissions
The University of Georgia
320 E. Clayton Street
Suite 400
Athens, GA 30602-4401

Allow 10-14 days for receipt and processing of these materials by the Graduate School Admissions Office, which are then forwarded to the department.

  • Official Transcripts - Send 2 official transcripts from all institutions attended even if no degree was conferred and/or credits are listed on other transcripts.
  • Official Test Scores (GRE/TOEFL) - The GRE is required of all applicants. Few students are admitted with scores below 1000. The average GRE score for incoming MPA students for fall 2008 was approximately 1218; however, the GRE score is only one of several factors considered for admissions. Equally important are an applicant's personal statement and other application materials. Institutional codes are not required for score reporting for the computer-based Graduate Record Exam; select "The University of Georgia" and then "Public Affairs" when asked where scores should be sent.
For more information on the GRE, including how to register for the test, visit http://www.gre.org/ttindex.html

International Applicants - additional requirements can be found on the Graduate School website.

3. Send remaining materials to the Department's Graduate Office:

Department of Public Administration and Policy
Attn: Graduate Office
204 Baldwin Hall
The University of Georgia
Athens, GA 30602-1615
