Jenna Jambeck

Jenna Jambeck, assistant professor in the College of Engineering, is internationally recognized for her research on plastic waste in the ocean and for the Marine Debris Tracker app she co-created. She notes that being active in research helps bring current environmental engineering issues into the classroom for students.

Years before he started working on campus, Scott LaClaire submitted several of his poems for publication in The Georgia Review. None was ever published, but LaClaire finds irony in his efforts now that he's helped mold the publication during his 14 years at the literary journal.

Award-winning ‘Vegucated’ to be shown


The award-winning documentary “Vegucated” will be shown March 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 101 at Miller Learning Center. “Vegucated” follows three meat- and cheese-loving New Yorkers who accept a challenge to adopt a vegan diet and a new way of thinking about food for six weeks.

Baseball team to host Yellow Jackets


The Diamond Dogs will play Georgia Tech March 31 at 7 p.m. at Foley Field. Tickets are $5 to $8.


Thurmond to deliver Early Lecture
Michael L. Thurmond, the superintendent of the DeKalb County School District, will deliver the Mary Frances Early Lecture April 1 at 3 p.m. in Tate Theatre. A reception will follow. This lecture is held each year in honor of Early, the first African-American graduate from UGA.
