Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Chi Omega was founded at ePauw University in 1885 by seven
undergraduate music students. Their badge, the Grecian lyre, symbolizes their ties to
their founding. Alpha Chi’s open motto “Together let us seek the heights,” is reflected
in the sisterhood shared at chapters across the nation. Beta Sigma was honored as the
top Alpha Chi chapter in the nation for four consecutive years from 2002 to 2006.
The sisters of Alpha Chi are very proud of their leadership on campus and in the
community. Many sisters are involved in a variety of campus and community
organizations, including SGA Senators, Orientation Leaders, Grady Ambassadors,
Relay for Life, Tate Society, ugaMIRACLE and HERO. Many volunteer for the Athens
mentor program and Granview Nursing Home’s Adopt-a-Grandparent program. Sisters
also support UGA athletics by participating in competition cheerleading, the equestrian
team, track, Hoop Girls and Diamond Darlings. Alpha Chis pride themselves for setting
high academic standards and continually boast a high chapter grade point average.
Aside from campus activities, Alpha Chis are very supportive of their philanthropy,
the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation which supports various charities. Alpha Chi’s annual
spring philanthropy event for is a golf tournament and a silent auction. The Chapter
raised more than $50,000 this year. The majority of the funds were donated to the
American Cancer Society, with a smaller contribution
given to Project Safe. They also won the Relay
for Life championship for three years by raising the
most money for the American Cancer Society.
