Alpha Gamma Delta
Since its founding in 1904, the members of Alpha Gamma Delta have striven to
uphold and surpass the principles of sisterhood set forth by their 11 founding
members. Making their mark on campus, the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta have
excelled in academics and leadership roles at the university and in the community. Just
a few of the activities that Alpha Gam sisters participate in are Relay for Life,
University Union, Georgettes, competition cheerleading and the Student Government
Organization. Sisters believe that involvement in their school and community further
enhances their experience at the University of Georgia.
Each year Alpha Gamma Delta raises money for the Alpha Gamma Delta
Foundation which funds research for diabetes, camps for juvenile diabetes and many
other programs to fight the disease. For the past several years, the girls have organized
a benefit concert at Athens’ historic Georgia Theatre. For three years in a row Sister
Hazel came to play and in 2007, Taylor Swift played two sellout concerts to raise more
than $2,700 for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation.
First founded at Syracuse University in 1904, the Gamma Alpha chapter of Alpha
Gamma Delta was installed at the University of Georgia in 1923. The sisters of
Alpha Gamma Delta have a unique bond resulting
from their many social and philanthropic events such
as the sisterhood retreat in the fall, themed socials
throughout the year and Relay for Life in the spring.
