Alpha Omicron Pi
Leadership, academic excellence, involvement, and genuine friendships make the
Lambda Sigma chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi unique. Four women who exemplified
these same qualities founded Alpha Omicron Pi on January 2, 1897.
The sisters of AOPi are involved in nearly every campus organization, including
Arch Society, SGA, Order of Omega, Tate Society and Blue Key. Several sisters have
been named Foundation Fellows and others receive academic scholarships. In 2006,
one sister was elected Homecoming Queen and another was chosen as Greek Woman
of the Year. Members also consider athletics important and are involved in UGA
Cheerleading, Gymdogs, Track & Field, Dance Dawgs, Hoop Girls, Lacrosse and the
Equestrian Team. Many sisters also represent the sorority on intramural teams.
Philanthropy activities such as ugaMIRACLE, Relay for Life and Alternative
Spring Break are all important organizations that AOPi supports. Members take time
to get involved with the community by volunteering at Athens Regional Hospital,
Athens YMCA, Habitat for Humanity and mentoring at local schools.
Lambda Sigma supports its national philanthropy, Arthritis Research, by holding
an annual 5K run, “Run for the Roses.” This event raised more than $10,000 in 2007.
Sisters of AOPi also created a foundation to raise money
in memory of a very special sister.
As a result of AOPi’s achievements and focus on
tradition and excellence throughout the year, the
Lambda Sigma chapter was recognized as the top
AOPi chapter internationally in 2000.
