Delta Gamma
What began as an Anchor Club in Oxford, Mississippi has grown into a women’s
fraternity which boasts more than 190,000 members and 146 collegiate chapters.
The Delta Iota Chapter was chartered at UGA in 1968, and since her beginning has
emphasized sisterhood, service, involvement and individuality among her members.
Two golden anchors, gifts from the U.S. Navy, sit in the front yard and in downtown
Athens to symbolize hope for all Delta Gamma sisters.
In Delta Gamma, young women will find many leadership opportunities. Delta
Gammas are involved in a variety of campus groups including Hoop Girls, UGA
Redcoats, Newsource 15, many political and professional groups, various club and
intramural sports and more. Delta Gamma is represented in The Red and Black,
University Judiciary, Classic City Mentoring, WUOG radio, Leadership UGA,
Georgia Recruitment Team and Arch Society. DG also values academics, with
members involved in the Honors Program, Order of Omega, Golden Key and more.
Delta Gamma sisters also love to work with their national philanthropy, “Service for
Sight,” which gives aid to the visually impaired at both local and national levels. DG’s
annual “Low Country Boil” raises money each fall and “Anchor Slam” raises money
for the visually impaired in the spring. Delta Gamma sisters support other
philanthropies, such as ugaMIRACLE, Habitat for
Humanity, HERO, Invisible Children and Relay for Life.
The DG sisters also enjoy beautiful renovations to the
chapter house which were completed in 2006.
The sisters of Delta Gamma welcome you to the
University of Georgia and look forward to meeting you
during Recruitment.
