The Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC) was founded at the
University of Georgia (UGA) to answer the national
need for a center dedicated to advancing knowledge of the structures
and functions of oligo- and polysacchrides.
The center employs
about 100 scientists and staff in a multidisciplinary setting with
state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Researchers at the CCRC
investigate the chemistry and biology of complex carbohydrates of
biological importance using advanced analytical techniques, including
mass spectrometry; recombinant genetics; nuclear magnetic resonanace
spectroscopy; computer modeling; tissue culture; gas, liquid, and
lectin affinity chromatography; enzymology; immunology; artificial
neural networks; chemical synthesis; end electron microscopy.
