Outstanding Teaching Assistant Spring 2007
The Department of Political Science would like to recognize the graduate students whose efforts in the classroom as teaching assistants and independent instructors and as research assistants have truly been outstanding.

Liz Coggins is a second year Masters student. During Spring semester she facilitated two discussion groups for a large section of American Government. She was incredibly prepared and received extremely high scores in her evaluations, particularly in the categories of stimulation of interest, concern for student and instruction.
Student comments: “Great teacher! Very knowledgeable and provided much assistance with the subject matter. Made breakout seem fun and interesting. Best breakout I have had at UGA. She seems to have a love for teaching and political science.”
“Liz is the best TA I’ve had at UGA. She is awesome at explaining things so that I understand them. She is extremely approachable for help. She used other tools for teaching. I felt like she really cared about our class.”

Outstanding Research Assistant Spring 2007

Michael O’Keefe is a second year Masters student. During Spring semester he received one of the strongest evaluations given to a research assistant possible. His work exhibited all of the things professors celebrate in strong research assistant: diligence and ingenuity.

Ph.D. Candidates Laura Moyer and Daniel Reed win awards.
Laura Moyer, a Ph.D. candidate focusing on Law and Courts and Daniel
Reed, a Ph.D. candidate focusing on American Politics, recently received
the coveted Dean's Award. This award provides a grant of $1,000 to
supplement their dissertation research.
Laura Moyer was also winner of the Dissertation Completion Award. This
is the highest award that can be given to a graduate student and
provides a $15,000 scholarship for the student to support them during
the completion of their dissertation.
Both of these students are to be congratulated for their excellent
records. Dr. Susan Haire is the major professor for Laura Moyer. Dr.
Paul Gurian is the major professor for Daniel Reed.
