In a sense, the University of Georgia's designation as a state university is misleading. Without substantial private contributions, neither the University nor the Department of Political Science could perform at the high level you and I expect. In our Department, these contributions help support talented and motivated students, they fund teaching awards that recognize the achievements of our best faculty and graduate student instructors, they make possible the annual Parthemos Lecture which has attracted a series of world-renowned scholars to the campus, and they help defray the cost of recruiting the best students and faculty.

As you can see, we work to make sure that contributions are put to good use, making an impact where state funds are simply not available.
