Recipient of the "Josiah Meigs Excellence in Teaching Award," the University of Georgia's highest teaching award, and named "Georgia Professor of the Year" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in 2004.

Statement of Interests:
Maltese's current research focuses on the jurisprudence of Supreme Court Justice David Souter. He also continues to study the federal judicial appointment process. Much of his work has focused on the development of institutional structures and the effect that those structures have had on processes like presidential-press relations and judicial appointments. He is also co-author of the leading textbook, The Politics of the Presidency, currently in its 6th edition. He directs "SPIA at Oxford," a study abroad program at the University of Oxford www.uga.edu/spiaatoxford and was named "Study Abroad Director of the Year" by the University of Georgia's Office of International Education in 2003. He also writes extensively about classical music and won a 1996 Grammy Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
