Greetings from Jan Keithly, the President-elect of ISOP and Associate Editor of JEM, and Sam Bowser, President of ISOP!

We want to tell you about some exciting opportunities in connection with the Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology during this coming year. The editor and his staff have suggested that the Society institute a series of Mini-reviews on "cutting edge" topics of general interest to the Society.

As a part of this Journal profile enhancement, there will be a special January-February 2009 issue devoted to the three outstanding Symposia planned for the 21-26 July Protist2008 joint meeting of the International Society for Protistology (ISOP) and International Society for Evolutionary Protistology (ISEP) held in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

You, YES YOU, have an opportunity to contribute provocative and scintillating ideas for these new Mini-Reviews! Here are just a few suggested by others that might tweak your interest:

* Newly discovered protists or those of unique significance, e.g. the choanoflagellate Monosiga brevicollis, thought important for evolution of animals
* Protists with very small genomes
* Transgenic protists and control of disease
* Protists contributing to marine ecology and toxicology
* Protists as BT agents

Meet this challenging request! Will your topic be among the first selected for Mini- Reviews "Dancing with the stars"? Or, is it a Masterpiece Classic? A "Live at Manuscript Central"? Fame and fortune (well, fame anyway) await!

To propose a mini-review topic (or to actually submit a mini-review), contact Jan at keithly@wadsworth.org.
