The ISOP Executive Committee gave final approval to rename the East Coast section the North American section at its August meeting in Providence, RI.

The name change came after a discussion at last year’s East Coast meeting in Troy, NY. The section’s Steering Committee adopted a resolution that was then approved by members in North America by a vote of 71-5.

Under this resolution, members on the East Coast may continue to hold their regional, low cost, student friendly meetings during years when the ISOP Annual Meeting is not held on the East Coast.

The section’s next East Coast regional meeting is planned for summer 2009.

Two new North American Section Steering Committee members approved

Members at the Annual Meeting in Providence approved Mark Farmer of the University of Georgia and Jeff Cole of the American Type Culture Collection to serve three year terms on the North American Section Steering Committee. They are joined by Michael F. Dolan, chairman, of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Maria Avelina Espinosa of Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI and Mark Johnson of St. Joseph’s College in Hartford, CT, who each have two years remaining on their terms.
