Initiatives
In fall 2004, Provost Arnett Mace created a Task Force on General Education and Student Learning to examine the undergraduate experience at UGA and make recommendations for changes and improvements. The task force worked throughout the academic year and solicited input from faculty and students.
The final report was submitted to the provost in August 2005.
In 2006, another task force was appointed to examine graduate education at UGA. Additionally, a task force is examining five-year enrollment targets for both undergraduate and graduate students.
With the support of the Provosts Office, several institutional
initiatives involving interdisciplinary instructional
and research programs have been initiated over the past
few years:
In recent years, UGA has
also offered degree programs in locations
beyond Athens:
- In Fall 2002, UGA began offering undergraduate degree programs at the Gwinnett University Center in Lawrenceville. As enrollment grew over the next few years, the Board of Regents opted to create a new 4-year college in Gwinnett. Undergraduate programs at UGA 's Gwinnett campus are being phased out, with the remaining students expected to graduate by the end of spring semester 2008. UGA continues to offer graduate degree programs and continuing education in Gwinnett.
- Starting in fall 2005, bachelor's degree-completion programs have been offered at the UGA-Griffin campus. In fall 2006, four areas of study were offered in Griffin, as well as a graduate program in mathematics education. In fall 2007, the number of offerings was again expanded. Since fall 2003, UGA's College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, in partnership with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, also has offered degree programs at the UGA-Tifton campus
