Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.

Local Organization

Each chapter shall elect its own officers from among its active members. These shall include a President, Vice President, and as many others as desired to carry out the usual functions of Secretary and Treasurer. The duties of each of these offices shall be those ordinarily assigned to the office. The chapter, through its officers, shall make at least one annual report to the national office and register new members at least once a year. Each chapter shall have an advisor who is a member of Psi Chi, and who is chosen from faculty in a manner to be prescribed by the chapter. Each chapter shall prepare a set of Chapter Bylaws wherein shall be stated such rules as are needed for conducting the business of the chapter. The National Constitution and Bylaws of any chapter shall be contrary to the National Constitution and Bylaws. Within the limits of the National Constitution and Bylaws, each chapter shall have full charge of its activities.

Benefits and Advantages of Membership

Psi Chi Convention

Every year Psi Chi holds a behavioral science convention. Students from across the campus, and Georgia, are encouraged to present their research before their peers and our faculty. After the convention, a dinner party is held at which we get a chance to know each other a little better and awards from Psi Chi and the department are presented. The dinner is a nice reward for all of the hard work put into the convention and into the school year.

Social Functions

There are two initiation parties during the year, one held in winter and one in the spring. There is also a fall quarter party to help all new graduate students in getting to know each other and the graduate students who have been around for a while. It also gives the undergraduates a chance to learn more about psychology.

How Do I Get Involved Once I am a Member?

There are several ways to get involved in Psi Chi. One way is to become an officer. Near the end of every school year, new officers are chosen for the following school year. This may be the most visible way to get involved. A second way is to help with the convention. If you do not want to plan you may want to help. The Co-Chairmen solicit help from almost every member of Psi Chi. Finally, another way to be involved is to offer your suggestions to the officers. Maybe we can add something new. Your suggestions will help us better serve you as members and maintain a strong and viable organization.
