Research Interests
My major research interests are in the areas of self and motivational
processes. Currently, my research falls primarily within three
areas: (a) the causes and consequences of possessing secure vs.
fragile self-esteem, (b) the implications of authentic functioning for psychological well-being and interpersonal functioning, and (c) self-regulatory processes associated
with the presence or absence of self-determination.
I have received grants from the National Institute of Mental
Health and the National Science Foundation to conduct research
on fragile self-esteem and its role in psychological functioning.
Ongoing projects are examining the role of fragile self-esteem
in prejudice, intimate relationships, and psychological well-being.
