Funding
The Psychology Department offers a number of opportunities for students to
receive funding and financial assistance for graduate school. No special
application is needed to be considered for financial aid. All applications
will be considered and offers will be made to all who are eligible. Fellowships
and Assistantships pay all tuition except for student fees, which are still
required. While we cannot guarantee financial aid, in the last several years
nearly all of our eligible students have had some form of aid. We have an
excellent track record of providing financial aid to students and are committed
to doing everything we can to provide the students we admit to our program
with financial support for their graduate work.

Students (compiled by Kecia Thomas) Departmental Assistantships
A set number of assistantships are given to the Department by the
Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. These assistantships are
divided among the six (6) doctoral programs. Students and prospective
students are rank ordered by Programs and assistantships are awarded
from this listing.
Research Assistantships Research Assistantships may be available through research grants
held by faculty members. These assistantships provide funding and
a tuition waiver for students, in exchange for the student working
on the faculty members' research project (which often leads to collection
of data towards the student's thesis or dissertation).
Presidential Graduate Fellows Program Eligibility: Only citizens and legal permanent residents of the
United States are eligible to receive this Fellowship.
The department is invited to nominate a certain number of candidates
they wish to recruit. Applications must be complete. Nominations
for this assistantship are submitted early in February.
The Research Foundation and the Graduate School contribute to this
stipend the first two years and the Fellow's department will be
expected to guarantee the stipend for the remaining eligibility
period.
University-Wide Assistantships New Student Awards: The Department is invited to nominate
a certain number of the full-time, Fall enrollment. Students who
will enroll in a graduate degree program for the first time are
eligible. Application must be complete. This competition is held
in early February.

Coverdell Fellowships for Brain Imaging Research
Final Year Doctoral Awards
The Department is invited to nominate a small number of the
full-time Fall enrollment. This competition is for Doctoral students
who are expected to complete
and defend their dissertations by end of academic year. Students who have already
received three (3) years of Graduate School support are not eligible to be
nominated. All nominees must have been supported by their departments at least
one (1) year of their doctoral program. This competition is held in March.
Regents' Out-of-state Tuition Waivers
The
Department is invited to nominate students who have been accepted
into the Graduate School as prospective candidates for a degree
(a certain percentage
of full-time Fall enrollment). 3.50 Graduate GPA and/or a 3.30 Undergraduate
GPA and a combined score of at least 1100 on the GRE is required. Regent's
waiver awards are made initially for fall semester. The award is renewed
through the following summer semester if the recipient achieves
a 3.50 graduate grade
point average each semester. We are notified in April of this competition.
Students
may also work directly with the Universitys Office
of Student Financial Aid (706-542-6147) for assistance in securing
student loans.
Graduate Schools have an agreement
that students are not bound to accept an offer of aid until April
15. Students must, therefore, accept
or decline an offer by 15 April or it will be withdrawn. After that date students
cannot change to accept another offer. That means that if a student has not
heard about financial aid by April, they might still get an offer when we have
not heard from someone that we made an offer to.
