Researchers in the Primate Cognition and Behavior Laboratory, directed by Dr. Dorothy Fragaszy of the Neuroscience and Behavior program, focus on a wide spectrum of cognitive questions that can be pursued through the study of nonhuman primates. Current projects concern perception, tool use, planning, spatial navigation, social cognition, symbolic understanding and arithmetic. Much of this work is conducted with eight tufted capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella) housed at the University of Georgia. We also participate in field research with wild capuchin monkeys in South America, and in collaborations with other laboratories to study other species of nonhuman primates.
