A diverse array of research at the frontier of scientific inquiry and discovery about interactions between environmental factors and human health is conducted in the Environmental Health Science Department. The research generates information critical for analysis of health risks posed by the mixture of chemical and microbiological agents present in community and occupational settings.

Research in the department is sponsored by federal and private organizations including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, and the Department of Agriculture. The knowledge gained from these studies addresses the needs of local, state, national, and international organizations working to promote quality of life for people in Georgia, the United States, and elsewhere.
