Research Interests
Disparities in Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Outcomes
Dr. Godette’s research seeks to increase our understanding of the
etiology of health disparities experienced by U.S.-based minority
populations throughout the life course. Her interest in disparities has
focused on investigations of the etiology, prevention, and treatment of
alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) abuse and dependence.
Adolescent and Young Adulthood Populations
Her research currently focuses on the period of the life course between
adolescence (age 12 – 17) through young adulthood (age 18 - 30). Her
work seeks to investigate the role this period has in determining
health and health behaviors later in the life course.
Social Determinants of Health
Her research also focuses on understanding social determinants that
serve as health risk or resilience for U.S.-based minority populations.
These determinants include but are not limited to: social capital,
socioeconomic status, nativity, discrimination, neighborhoods and
gender. Her research is based on the premise that individual
determinants, social interactions and the context in which both are
embedded impact individual and population health and health behaviors
throughout the life course. Thus, her work seeks to increase our
understanding of how the interplay between multiple levels of the
socio-ecological framework influence health and health behaviors
throughout the life course.
