Applications are considered in their entirety before making admission decisions. In general, the following minimum test scores are recommended:

  • Undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a 0- to 4-point scale).
  • GRE test score of 1000 for verbal and quantitative sections combined.

The application process to The University of Georgia requires two steps:

  • The applicant must apply to the Graduate School. The application to the Graduate School must be done online.
  • The applicant must apply to the Health Promotion and Behavior Department.

Application Deadlines

Admissions decisions will be made only on complete files. Students are usually admitted for fall term, and only under special circumstances they may be admitted for spring. Applicants should have all materials submitted to the graduate school and complete at least 6 weeks before the departmental deadline.

Consider three sets of deadlines in filing a timely application:

Graduate School deadline for applicants seeking assistantship consideration through Graduate School funding and competition

  • All general application admission materials must be received in the Office of Graduate Admissions by January 1. Applicants must be admitted as prospective degree candidates by February 15. The HPB department nominates one applicant to this assistantship every year. Because this assistantship is very competitive, applicants must have very strong credentials (high GPA, high GRE, and some public health experience).

Departmental deadlines for admission and consideration for assistantship from departmental sources of funding

  • The HPB department must receive a complete application by March 1.

Departmental deadlines for admission without consideration for assistantship

  • The HPB department must receive a complete application by May 1.

Additional information about financial assistance is available through the UGA Office of Financial Aid.
