The Youth Violence Prevention Group conducts research on the study and prevention of school violence and bullying and the promotion of positive, caring school environments.

Our philosophy:

“We strongly believe that all children should be able to learn and grow up in a safe and caring environment. We know that the absence of illness is not equivalent to good health. Likewise, the reduction of bullying by itself does not translate to a healthy and inviting community. Beyond the reduction of aggression, we need to increase the positive qualities of the environment in which children live and learn. In addition to and within that positive environment, adults also need to provide opportunities for children to learn social skills that will help them establish positive relationships with peers and adults, as well as the academic skills they need to succeed in school.” (Orpinas & Horne, 2006, p. 3)
