Undergraduate Recognition Award

Purpose :
To recognize UP TO THREE outstanding undergraduate majors in Health Promotion and Education based on academic performance, professional development-related experiences, and accomplishments within the framework of the Professional Health Educator Competencies.

Students who apply for and do not win the Outstanding Senior Undergraduate Major Award will be considered for this Recognition Award. The award is competitive, thus requiring an application and review process.

Award winners will receive a check for either A) $200.00 if having the highest GPA along with other accomplishments, or B) $100.00 for the remaining two awards; in addition, each awardee will have their names included on the Recognition Award plaque located outside of the department office (third floor Ramsey Center); and receive a certificate/plaque to be presented during the spring semester.

Eligibility :
Applicants must have completed the following HPRB Major classes in each category:
  • at least three of the following: HPRB 3020, HPRB 3700, HPRB 3750, HPRB 3210, HPRB 5060, HPRB 5210
  • either HPRB 4400 or HPRB 3400 (or enrolled the semester of the award)

Application Process :

The following criteria will serve as guidelines for the application and selection process:

1. Submission of a typed, two page (double spaced) philosophy statement about Health Promotion and Education which will include:
why you chose health promotion and education as your major and intended professional career
your professional goals and/or career objectives
what you have to offer to the health promotion and education profession

2. A resume including:
  • your overall GPA and your major GPA (3.0 minimum for both)
  • your professional-related experiences (work and voluntary service)
  • your accomplishments while a student at UGA (honors, awards, etc.)
  • other relevant activities at UGA or in the community
