Educational Background
Mr. Lent has over 27 years of emergency management in both the public and private sectors. He started his career as a volunteer for Prince George�s County Maryland and then became an employee of the Prince George�s County Office of Emergency Preparedness where he served as an operations officer in the Operations Division responding to various emergencies and disasters in the field. He then commanded the Operations Division, and was appointed the County Radiological officer and became the Radiological expert on the County Hazardous Materials Team. When the office moved to new quarters he was promoted to the position of County Operations Officer and played a major part in the development and construction of the new technologically advanced Emergency Operations Center. His duties as Operations Officer included managing the technology in the EOC, coordinating the RACES/ARES radio amateur group, assisting the Director with the budget, purchasing and management of the departmental budget, writing and maintaining the County Emergency Operations Plan, developing and coordinating exercises and acting in the Director�s absence, and representing the office and the County at various local, state and national organizations and committees.Area of Specialty
Mr. Lent left the County in 1995 and accepted a position with and part ownership in Specialized Disaster Systems International, Inc. and was responsible for assisting in the development of the EM/2000 Emergency Management computer system. His activities have been directed to advancing the use of technology within the profession and he has been instrumental in the development of the REMITS exercise and training program and the integration of other technologies into an overall capability.Mr. Lent continues to be active in the profession and is the immediate past President of the International Association of Emergency Managers Region III. He also represents the association on the Department of Energy�s Technical External Coordinating Committee, is a member of the committee guiding EMEX Exhibition held in conjunction with the annual IAEM conference. He is a private sector member of the National Emergency Management Association, was instrumental in the development of the NEMA private sector committee and he is a member of the executive committee of the Emergency Interoperability Consortium and is one of its co-founders, and is active in data standards efforts.
Mr. Lent is a resident of Prince George�s County Maryland, is married with five children and ten grand children.
