Frequently Asked Questions:

How long is the MPH Program at UGA?

The MPH Program comprises a total of 45 semester credit hours, which can be completed in four semesters.

Where are the MPH courses taught?

All classes are taught on the main campus in Athens, GA. Currently, we do not teach any classes at the Gwinnett campus.

Does UGA have a night or part-time MPH program?

We do not have a night program, although several courses are taught in the evenings. We have full-time students (9 credit hours or more) and part-time students. Students who work full-time will need to have some flexibility of schedule to be able to complete the coursework. Some courses are taught during the day.

What is the difference between a College of Public Health and a School of Public Health?

There are no differences. At UGA, a College is the highest ranking of administration. For this reason, the College of Public Health was labeled “college” at this university.

Are all classes taught in the same area of campus?

No, classes are taught in various areas of campus, but typically the area of concentration classes are taught in one building. Free UGA buses take students to the different building on the campus.

Is an internship or practicum required?

YES, all students must complete a 300-clock hour internship with a public health organization or agency. Students choose their internship site with help from a coordinator, and complete a final document of their experience. Students should start thinking about internships at least a semester prior to the semester they plan to complete it.

What types of jobs are available after graduation?

Graduates can find jobs in administration, planning, evaluation, etc. Examples are:

  • Universities
  • Health Departments
  • Non profit organizations
