Course Withdrawal
After the Drop/Add period, you may not adjust your schedule except to withdraw from a course (or courses). You have until the midpoint of the term to withdraw. The withdrawal deadline is noted on the calendar in the Key Dates section of the OASIS Schedule of Classes.
Students initiate the withdrawal process through the OASIS computer system. The procedure is listed on the main OASIS menu.
The instructor has the option of assigning a grade of W or WF prior to the midpoint withdrawal deadline. A W does not affect your grade point average, but it does appear on both your term grade report and your official UGA transcript. A grade of WF (Withdrawal Failing) is computed as an F for the course, affects your grade point average, and appears on your official UGA transcript. You should definitely discuss your options with the instructor before beginning the withdrawal process.
If you withdraw from a class after the midpoint of the term, you will automatically be assigned a WF , unless you are doing satisfactory work and the withdrawal is recommended by the Office of Student Affairs because of emergency or health reasons. In such cases, you should see the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs, Room 201, Holmes/Hunter Academic Building.
Students who are on Financial Aid should check with the Office of Student Financial Aid before withdrawing from classes to determine if their eligibility will be affected. International students should check with the Office of International Education to determine if there will be visa status implications. You may also wish to check with your auto and health insurance companies if your withdrawal will cause you to fall below 12 semester hours.
Instructors may also withdraw students who have had excessive absences. If this is done before the midpoint, the instructor may assign a grade of W or WF . If a student is withdrawn for excessive absences after the midpoint, a WF grade will be assigned.
