October 30: We're sad to say goodbye to Romulus Breban, who is leaving the US to take up a prestigious position at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.

 

Spring 2008

July 30: The Rohani lab welcomes Benjamin Roche, who comes from long-term collaborator Jean-Francois Guegan's lab in Montpellier. Benjamin will be working on the epidemiology of Avian Influenza Viruses and pertussis.

July 7-9: Pej gives an invited talk at Transmission 2008, held at theUniversity of Warwick, UK.

May 5: We welcome Angela Romito to the Rohani lab. Angela will be working as a research technician on the Plodia project.

April 28: The Rohani lab bids farewell to Dan Vasco, who is moving to a position at the University of Missouri.

February 15: Congratulations to Pej, who is promoted to the rank of Professor.

January 22: Congratulations to Daniel (again!) for receiving a National Geographic Young Explorer's Grant!

Autumn 2007

Nov 6: The Rohani lab welcomes Jerome Niogret, who is joining us from the University of Montpellier. Jerome will be working on the coevolutionary dynamics of the Plodia-Venturia system.

Nov 4: The book by Keeling & Rohani titled Modeling Infectious Diseases is published by Princeton University Press. For more information or to download accompanying computer code, click on the cover image.

 

Nov 1 : Congratulations to Daniel for the following paper: Cui J, Han N, Streicker D, Li G, Tang X, Shi Z, et al. Evolutionary relationships between bat coronaviruses and their hosts. Emerg Infect Dis. 2007

Nov: Daniel gives departmental seminar at Amherst College Dept of Biology in Amherst, Mass.

Aug: Congratulations to Daniel for being invited to give talks at the North American Society for Bat Research Conference / International Bat Research Conference in Merida, Mexico, as well as the Peruvian Ministry of Health in Lima, Peru.

Spring 2007

July 9: Romulus Breban, currently a postdoc with Dr Sally Blower at UCLA, accepts to join the Rohani lab. Welcome Romulus. He will be working on the dynamics of Avian Influenza Viruses in North American Wildfowl populations, in collaboration with Dr Dave Stallknecht from SCWDS.

 

June 27: Hanh successfully defended her Masters thesis -- many congrats Hanh!

 

June 5: Daniel and Jamie both receive research funding through the Lewis & Clark Fund, the American Philosophical Society.

 

May 31: Helen accepts an Assistant Professorship in the departments of Mathematics and Biology at the University of New Mexico!

 

April 6: Pej is awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship for 2007-2008 (http://www.gf.org/newfellow-fields.html#US).

 

March 28: Pej receives University of Georgia's Creative Research Medal (http://www.ovpr.uga.edu/creativeresearch/index.html).

March 26: Congrats to Daniel (again) on his receipt of an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship!

March 19-24: Pej and Helen take part in NCEAS working group on "Inference Methods for Mechanistic Ecological Models", co-organised by Aaron King (U Michigan) and Pej.

March 2: Congrats to Daniel for being awarded best student presentation at the 13th annual Institute of Ecology Graduate student Symposium.
