Global Internships

Georgia Law's Global Internship Program

Exposing UGA's law students to international and transnational law through summer internships in foreign governmental agencies, academic centers, law firms, corporations and NGOs.

2005 Participant assigned to Courts of Ghana
Since 2001, the Dean Rusk Center has placed over 90 law students in 18 countries around the world through Georgia Law's Global Internship Program. This unique initiative allows first- and second-year J.D. students at the University of Georgia to venture beyond America's borders to gain experience in legal organizations during a six- to ten-week period.

Past host institutions and organizations have praised the results of the interaction with UGA's law students, not only appreciating the opportunity to network with future American legal professionals but, most importantly, recognizing the actual contributions made by the students during their summer placements. Participants consistently report their experiences to be among the most professionally and personally rewarding of their law school careers, and they often remark how it's the first experience they are asked about in job interviews.

My experience...has only fueled my desire to work on an international scale because I feel that globalization has become a great influence on not only business but the legal community. As globalization continues, the world grows smaller, and I do not want to be restricted to practicing with only American clients.
