Since the University System of Georgia Staff Council annual conference at UGA in 1995, the parade of yearly conferences at sister institutions has come full circle, passing the baton back to UGA. On Thursday and Friday, October 13 and 14, 2005, we again will host our USG Staff Council colleagues and friends. The conference theme is Statewide Staff: Together Everyone Achieves More (SSTEAM). It is queuing up to be an enjoyable gathering and we want to invite all UGA staff members to come, represent UGA, and meet compeers from around the state.

The UGA Staff Council SSTEAM '05 subcommittee has kept a diligent pace concocting a tentative program for the occasion that begins with a tour of our Classic City on the evening of the 13th. Held at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, the program on the 14th kicks off with breakfast, welcome and comments by top UGA administrators, and Doc Johnson's Traveling Medicine and Magic Show. Conference sessions will provide steps for employees to advance their career goals within the system and ways to energize their staff councils or create new ones. In the luncheon address from UGA's Associate Vice President for Human Resources, we hope to hear about benefits, implementation of the Classification & Pay study, and UGA and national human resources professionals' perspectives on our forward march into the future. The SSTEAM '05 cavalcade will close with USG Staff Council announcements and door prizes. Music will join the lineup if it can be arranged.

Supporting our procession toward SSTEAM '05 have been the considerate donations of the President's Venture Fund, the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach and Associate Provost, the School of Law Alumni Office, and the University Bookstore, among others. With this generosity and assistance, we hope to be able to provide some fun items in the attendee registration package and possibly even a scholarship fund to grant a few registration fees. As the program strides forward, information will be posted on the Staff Council web site (www.uga.edu/ugasc). Mark your calendars for October 13 and 14, 2005.
