Students for a Free Tibet's Mission Statement
Student's for a Free Tibet's mission is to educate young people to the realities of Tibet and translate awareness into action through non-violent political, economic and social campaigns. SFT works with a coalition of peace and social justice, interfaith and human rights organizations to accomplish its goals and foster dialogue and understanding within our global community.

Students for a Free Tibet's Constitution
Preamble
It is our intent to provide our school and community with a tool through which we may educate others on the current political, and social situation in occupied Tibet, and motivate them to challenge, the policies of the power structure of government and private industry that maintains this situation. Our goals are to do everything within our power to promote support for the exiled Tibetan government, to spread multicultural awareness, understanding, and respect, and to convince the global community that the nation of Tibet should be independent and free from unwanted foreign rule. We will do this through non-violent action and will promote the spirit of peace, understanding, and liberty.

Article I: Name

Name The name of this organization shall be Students for a Free Tibet.


Article II: Purpose Purpose

We the concerned Students for a Free Tibet intend to educate the Athens and UGA community, as well as all neighboring communities, about the present situation in Tibet. We will bring about awareness and promote action against the colonial occupation, human rights violations, environmental devastation, cultural genocide and other tragedies currently occurring inside Tibet. Student's for a Free Tibet's mission is to educate young people to the realities of Tibet and translate awareness into action through non-violent political, economic and social campaigns. SFT works with a coalition of peace and social justice, interfaith and human rights organizations to accomplish its goals and foster dialogue and understanding within our global community. We support the non-violent and compassionate efforts of H.H. the Dalai Lama to foster peace and justice in the world.

Article III: Membership

The Students for a Free Tibet University of Georgia Chapter shall require of members merely to be supportive of SFT's mission. SFT shall have Active members, consisting of UGA students. As well as Associate Members which consist of Faculty and Staff members. Honorary membership shall be granted by a vote of Active and Associate members. This membership shall be reserved for speakers and dignitaries or as deemed necessary by this chapter. Diversity is an important facet of a successful organization such as this. As such, SFT membership shall not be denied to any person because of age, race, sex, religion, handicap, or national origin.

Article IV: Dues and Payments
Students for a Free Tibet requires that each chapter pay a $50 annual fee. This fee is for use of the SFT logo and the support of the national organization. Students for a Free Tibet shall not require a membership fee from members, although member's should be aware that costs may incur through various activities.

Article V: Officers

Our Chapter shall have the following officer's President, Vice President, and Treasurer. These positions shall run for a term of one year. Elections shall be held at the end of the Fall Semester (the third week in December), as to make an easier transition for the incoming elected officers. Secondly SFT shall keep committees for various events. These positions shall be on a volunteer basis.

Article VI: Meetings

Bi-monthly meetings shall be held to keep up with the most current events in Tibet. All of the aforementioned officers possess the authority to call together a meeting.


Article VII: Quorum

SFT shall not have a maximum amount of members, as we strive to bring about awareness to the Global Community.

Article VIII: Amendments

We should be an evolving organization and should be able to mold according to the situation in Tibet. Though at the same time we should like the organization to have strong roots and maintain stability. All Amendments to this Constitution shall have to be approved by the members. This Constitution shall not be overbearing so that the organization may adapt to various situations, but shall never go against the basic purpose of this Constitution or the philosophies held by either Students for a Free Tibet or International Campaign for Tibet.
