The Numan V. Bartley Award

The Numan V. Bartley Award, established by the SHA Executive Council and funded by Numan Bartley's post-humous bequest to the SHA, is to support research on southern historical topics by faculty at community colleges and other two-year colleges. The award will be made annually to one or more applicants, in amounts ranging from $1500 to $5000.

Applicants should be full-time faculty members and current SHA members. Applications should include a full c.v., a two-page description of the project to be funded, a proposed budget or description of how the award would be used, and the names and contact information of two references.

Applications for the first award should be submitted to the SHA office by September 1, 2009, and winners will be announced at the annual meeting in Louisville in November. Recipients will have two years in which to utilize the funds, and should provide a report describing what they have achieved at the end of the second summer. Any inquiries regarding the prize and its guidelines should be addressed to the Secretary-Treasurer
