The Gerschefsky Scholarship
Each year, the Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia sponsors a scholarship in the amount of $600.00 named for Edwin Gerschefski, American composer, and former head of the School of Music at the University of Georgia. The scholarship is awarded in two installments of $300.00, one each semester.
Auditions are held at the end of the spring semester to award for the next year. This year, auditions will be held Sunday, April 26, 2009, beginning at 1 PM in Edge Recital Hall. The eligibility requirements are as follows:

1. Student must be rising Junior, rising Senior, or Senior undergraduate.
2. Student must be a music major at UGA.
3. Student must be enrolled as an undergraduate at UGA for the Fall and Spring Semesters during the 2009-2010 academic year. (Student teaching is considered to be enrollment)
4. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Audition Rules:

1. The time limit for the audition is ten minutes.
2. The applicant must provide three scores for the judges on the day
of the audition. Photocopies are permitted, on the condition that they are destroyed after the audition.

The winner is required to perform a piece by an American composer on the Phi Mu Alpha / Sigma Alpha Iota American Musicale Concert, Spring Semester 2010, which is devoted to music by American composers. The audition piece for the scholarship, however, need not be by an American composer.
