Formed in January 2001, we are the first student chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism.

We have members from multiple disciplines, although the core of our group is centered at the University's School of Environmental Design. I especially invite Real Estate students of the Terry College of Business, because it is eventually us, the Developers, who will implement New Urbanism.  But students from all departments are more than welcomed.

Our faculty advisor is Dr. John Crowley, Professor, CNU Member, and Dean of the School of Environmental Design; Lucy Rowland, also CNU Member, is our Associate Advisor.

SNU is an academic group but in an interactive environment. Our goal is to educate students about New Urbanism, which is not taught in most of  UGA’s  classrooms. But besides from presentations and lectures we encourage discussions and we will facilitate possibilities for that. Your input and knowledge is important to us! But no prior knowledge of New Urbanism is necessary.

SNU wants to be involved in the Athens Community. Over the list-serve we will keep you informed what is going on and events to participate in, such as a. Further we want to work together with Pratt Casity….

We are dedicated to the exploration of New Urbanism at the University of Georgia

Students for New Urbanism will…

… explore, examine, evaluate, discuss and promote the principles of the New Urbanism as stated in the Charter of the New Urbanism written by the Congress for the New Urbanism.

… raise awareness among students, faculty, administration and the community at large concerning issues relating to our built environment, and how the New Urbanism addresses these issues.

… provide educational forums where the concepts and ideas of the New Urbanism may be presented.

… support local community initiatives which advance the New Urbanism and its guiding principles as a design alternative.

… participate in or conduct events, which the executive board agrees, are beneficial to the organization.
