COMPASSION INTO ACTION

Our outreach and education efforts depend on caring people who volunteer their time and talents. Your active involvement can and does make a difference for animals. Join us and help be a voice for animals!

S.O.S welcomes your help with our busy schedule of speakers, films, tabling, leafleting, and other outreach efforts (see our Events page for upcoming opportunities to help out). In addition, we have many ongoing projects where you can help create a more compassionate world for animals. Please contact the officers below for information:

LIVE MORE HUMANELY

Each day, we make simple choices that have profound consequences. If you are looking to help animals, you can start with your own day-to-day activities. Your individual actions really do make a difference to the bigger picture!

Every day offers new opportunities to live more humanely. You don't have to make radical changes — even small changes can make a big impact. Eating vegetarian foods, buying cruelty-free products, and keeping your closet a fur-free zone are just a few of the ways your daily lifestyle choices can help reduce unnecessary animal suffering.

Looking for more ideas? Here are a few simple, effective things you can do . . . Adopt a homeless dog or cat from your local shelter instead of buying from a breeder or pet store. Whether it's a circus, rodeo, or animal fighting, make a vow to avoid any event that exploits animals in the name of entertainment or so-called "sport." Enjoy nature without taking up arms against a defenseless animal — say no to hunting.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

Beyond our own personal lifestyle choices, compassionate people can also speak out on issues that impact animals.

Major decisions affecting the lives of animals are made every day by government officials, business executives, & other influential people. For these leaders, there is no substitute for direct feedback from the public on an issue. Your action is critical to protecting animals from inhumane treatment and exploitation. Help speak for those who can't!

The websites below make it easy for you to stay on top of the issues and to contact leaders in government, business, and media to express your opinions. The key to success is you — how ready, willing, and able you are to take action on behalf of animals.

'Let no one be discouraged by the belief there is nothing one person can do against the enormous array of the world's ills, misery, ignorance, and violence. Few will have the greatness to bend history, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. And in the total of all those acts will be written the history of
a generation.'
