University of Georgia students in other schools and colleges who wish to change to or add a major in political science or international affairs are required to attend a New Major Orientation Session.
Students are strongly encouraged to call 706.542.0096 or visit the Candler Hall lobby front desk to register for one of these sessions.
The sessions are at 10:00, 1:00, and 3:00 on select Fridays throughout the term. Every session covers political science or international affairs major requirements and general information about advising and course availability in the School of Public and International Affairs. Available slots are limited for each major in each session, so students are encouraged to register by calling ahead or visiting Candler Hall.
The dates for the fall 2008 sessions are as follows:
September 5
September 26
October 3
October 24
November 14
November 21
December 10
The session offers a general description of what these two majors involve; it also covers the core curriculum, major requirements, and School-wide requirements for political science and international affairs majors. Advisors meet with students in a group of ten, give each student an annotated copy of their degree audit report, offer an individual walk-in after the group meeting, and allow students to make an appointment at a later date (if desired).
Advisors introduce the process of advising in the School and registering for seats in political science and international affairs courses. These processes can be very different from other units on campus and it is important – especially due to the high demand for seats in political science and international affairs – that students understand these rules and the reasons for them before updating their major. |
