Sampling on the SRSAt the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, I worked with Dr. Rebecca R. Sharitz as a Research Coordinator. My duties involved a number of field, lab and administrative tasks.

My research focused on wetland forest ecology: succession, response to disturbance, lianas,
and seedling dynamics. Long-term studies in Upper
Three Runs creek, Savannah river, and the Congaree
river floodplains have looked at secondary succession
and response to disturbance in floodplain forests. Seedling demographics were monitored annually at 4 sites where more than 14,000 seedling have been tagged since 1988. In the Congaree swamp, Dr. Sharitz established ten 1-ha plots after Hurricane Hugo struck. I led crews that re-sampled these plots as well as data analysis, presentation, and publishing.

The Congaree swamp is one of the last best remaining examples of old-growth floodplain forest in the southeastern United States. It is located south of Columbia, SC below the fall line on the upper Coastal Plain.

I am currently a Ph.d. student Ohio State University.
