SUMMARY

Research and monitoring being conducted in association with wetland restoration on the Savannah River Site focus on the assessment of basic ecosystem level processes that are occurring as succession proceeds under different restoration approaches.  Comparisons of populations and processes across successional gradients and restoration treatments allow the effect of disturbance and restoration activities to be evaluated.  Future restoration efforts will be more efficiently and effectively performed and evaluated  as a result of this research. Additionally, we will have identified biotic and abiotic parameters for predicting recovery of wetland health and functions.  The  wetland restoration technologies developed by scientists on the DOE Savannah River Site are transferable to other federally managed lands.
