SREL Reprint #0335 In
a Reservoir Receiving Heated Effluent from a Reactor J. Whitfield Gibbons and David H. Bennett Abstract Ecological studies of the largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides)
were conducted on Par Pond, a South Carolina reservoir receiving heated water
from a nuclear reactor. Population
density of bass is greater in the heated areas of the lake, particularly during
the winter. Individual bass exhibit
a high mobility in the reservoir, with movement of more than 6 km being of
frequent occurrence. The majority
of individuals recaptured in the heated areas appear to have remained in the
same place. SREL
